• Phase II — heat exchange, nominally isothermal: transfer $L\to H_o\to S$, with heat removed from the gas;
• Phase III — check valves closed, nominally adiabatic: expansion on the $S+H_i$ side;
• Phase IV — heat exchange, nominally isothermal: transfer $S\to H_i\to L$, with heat supplied to the gas.
